Minister of Education Zhou Ji visited Tsinghua May 10 to check up on the university's SARS prevention work, and later had lunch with students at the No. 9 Student Dining Hall.
The minister made an unannounced call on the administrative offices, where he met with President Gu Binglin, University Council President Chen Xi, and Executive Vice President He Jiankun, who reported on the ongoing SARS prevention work at Tsinghua.
Following that, Zhou suggested a visit to students during their lunch break. Professors Gu, Chen, and He accompanied him to the No. 9. After identifying himself to the volunteer ID checkers at the door, the minister was allowed to enter. He inspected the ventilation system and sanitization equipment, then sat at one of the dinner tables to chat with students about overcoming SARS.
Vice President Zheng Yankang and Vice Secretary Yang Zhenbin also met with Zhou at the dining hall.
